We are excited to announce our music programme for the Barents Spektakel 2017 is expanding with Bergen’s The Megaphonic Thrift joining the line-up for Friday’s double concert at Ofelas Arena on the 10/02/17.
The Megaphonic Thrift is one of Norway’s rising stars of the indie music scene, last year taking out the Spellemann prize for best indie album with their release ‘Sun Stare Sound’. The bands 2016 follow-up release, ‘Få Meg Til Verden i Tide‘ (Get Me to the World on Time) was long anticipated with Bergens Tidende writing –
‘Få meg til verden i tide’ is a masterful music encounter that finally is available on disc.
‘Få Meg Til Verden i Tide’ is the band’s first release with Norwegian lyrics, and is a reference to the song “Get Me To The World On Time” by The Electric Prunes.
The bands 2016 release represents a new direction for the band who have developed from guitar dominated tracks to more electronic and layered productions on the new album. The Nordic music web magazine Ja Ja Ja Music wrote –
Breaking away from the solidity of their previous guitar-oriented noise, their fourth album is an evolution for the band, not least because it’s the first time they’ve written songs in Norwegian. ‘Pilene’ (Arrows), out now, is decidedly more elusive and enigmatic as a result, its poppy synth-line heartbeat pumping away while decaying guitars hang back, just out of reach.
For their Barents Spektakel show, The Megaphonic Thrift will perform as The Megaphonic Thrift+ with two additional band members Emil Nikolaisen (Serena-Maneesh) and Njål Paulsberg (Young Dreams). The Megaphonic Thrift+ was born during a commissioned collaboration performed in Bergen in 2015. The Megaphonic Thrift’s original four members are Richard Myklebust, Linn Frøkedal, Fredrik Vogsborg and Njål Clemetsen.
Stay tuned for more Barents Spektakel 2017 music announcements in the coming weeks – and in the meantime, get to know your new favourite Bergen band The Megaphonic Thrift!!
